From purchasing to cooking and service – the catering services of the Studentenwerk Stuttgart have studied food and cooking and that with a new focus: For example, we focus on health and use organic controlled food.
By participating at our BIOWOCHE you show your focus –

Why?
... for health!
Organic food is FREE of genetic engineering, artificial flavours, flavour enhancers, chemically modified fats, oil and starches, artificial colours and preservatives, irradiation, fertilisers, etc..
In addition, organic products contain less residues of pesticides; among other things, these are the findings of the annual ecological monitoring programme of the state of Baden-Württemberg.
... for animal protection!
Not only humans benefit from ecological agriculture, animals do too: Through ethical husbandry, natural feeding stuff, abdication of antibiotics and growth hormones.
... for agriculture!
Through crop rotation, ecological agriculture improves fertility of the soils. Organic fertilisation and growing pulse provide for a good nitrogen supply.
In addition, due to the coverage with plants all year round, the risk of erosion is much lower. The diversity of species (flora and fauna) is enhanced and finally, there is proof of a positive influence on beneficial organisms and birds.
... for environment and climate!
Many eco-balances prove the positive environmental influence of organic food, for example with respect to the use of resources, biodiversity, emission of trace gases with climatic relevance and the design of the cultural landscapes.
... for OUR future!
The arguments in favour of a sustainable ecological agriculture and the use of organic products are convincing. There is only one disadvantage: On average, organic food is about 17% more expensive than conventionally grown products.
Still, with narrow margins and a great amount of sensitivity, the Studentenwerk Stuttgart intends to support the development towards more organic food in its refectories and cafeterias and introduce more and more organic products.
